We will be visiting two different farm fields together and comparing 30 years of no-till management with annual tillage management – through the lens of several soil health tests (water infiltration, macroinvertebrate, slump test, slake tests). We will also, of course, be mentioning our conservation programs (including our saturated buffer program!)

Hagie High Clearance Cover Crop Seeder field day 

When:  July 16, 2024

Where:  Dallas Center Test plot

We will perform an in-field, in-crop demonstration of the Hagie High Clearance Seeder Machine…and also talk about our conservation programs (including our saturated buffer program!) 

 September 5, 2024

 Rainfall simulation field day, where we conduct a rainfall simulation using our simulator trailer and show what different types of soil management look like after rainfall impact – it’s a way to demonstrate erosion vulnerability of a field under full tillage versus no tillage or cover crops

Whole Farm / Livestock conservation field day 

When: September 12, 2024

2023 Iowa Women in Agriculture Annual Conference

Ruth McCabe will be speaking from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. about conservation agriculture in Iowa. The conference runs all day with several speakers and workshops. Registration begins at 7:30am and the Conference wraps up at 4:30 pm. See the links below for the full schedule.

The Conference:

What was formerly the Small Grains Conference and the Cover Crop Boot Camp is now one event: the Midwest Covers and Grains Conference!

This regional Midwestern conference brings together farmers, supply chain buyers and researchers to promote successful farming with extended rotations and cover crops. The conference includes opportunities to network with small grains and cover crops buyers and sellers, and will have sessions for cover crop beginners and experienced practitioners. PFI’s Midwestern small grains network extends across five states including Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin.

Things to Look Forward to:

Connecting with others curious to learn more about the benefits of small grains in rotation

Two plenary sessions, afternoon breakouts and ample time for networking with farmers, industry representatives and exhibitors

Conference meals and snacks sourced from PFI members and local businesses

A happy hour in the evening of March 1.
